Our Teachers and Caregivers
At Small Steps Learning Academy, our teachers and caregivers are the heart of our school. They are trained, patient, and passionate professionals who understand how young children learn, grow, and express themselves. Every member of our team is committed to creating a warm, safe, and loving environment where each child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
Our teachers use engaging, child-centered methods to build strong academic foundations, while our caregivers ensure that every learner is nurtured emotionally, socially, and physically throughout the day. Together, they guide children with kindness, structure, and consistency encouraging independence, good behaviour, curiosity, and confidence.
With gentle supervision, positive communication, and genuine care, our staff work as a family to make Small Steps a place where children feel at home while developing the skills they need for school and life.
Our Aim
At Small Steps Learning Academy, our aim is to nurture the whole child in a safe, caring, and stimulating environment. We are committed to building strong foundations in social, emotional, physical, moral, and intellectual growth, ensuring that every learner, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds, feels valued, supported, and capable.
Through purposeful play, guided learning, and positive relationships, we help children develop confidence, curiosity, independence, and a genuine love for learning. Our goal is to prepare each child not only for academic success but for life shaping responsible, resilient, and respectful young learners.
Our Curriculum
Is a model that combines the Uganda National Early Childhood Development/Early Childhood Education Framework with international early childhood mentorship approaches, ensuring that each child grows physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and morally.
This enriched curriculum provides a broad foundation for early learning, guided by both national expectations and global best practices. It is designed to give every child strong early skills, confidence, and the ability to thrive in any learning system.
Our curriculum focuses on the following
Our curriculum focuses on small class sizes to allow closer attention, individualized support, and better teacher–child interaction. We emphasize resource-based and practical learning, ensuring children experience hands-on activities that make learning real, meaningful, and enjoyable. Through individualized support and differentiated learning, each child is able to learn at their own pace while meeting developmental milestones. We offer multiple learning areas that encourage exploration, including literacy, numeracy, art, music, movement, nature, and imaginative play. Our approach integrates international mentorship methods such as Montessori principles, Reggio Emilia exploration, play-based learning (EYFS), and global social–emotional learning standards. Extracurricular and enrichment activities are woven into the weekly routine to promote creativity, confidence, social skills, and physical development. Through this combined curriculum, Small Steps Learning Academy prepares children not only for primary school, but for a lifetime of learning, discovery, leadership, and independence.
